Also on Tuesday, the Haryana government made a formal request to the Centre seeking transfer of the three fresh FIRs against Rathore to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for investigations.

“We have registered a case for abetment to suicide after a complaint by Ashu Girhotra and I have written to the state government with a request for the case to be transferred to CBI,’’ Superintendent of Police Maneesh Chaudhry told HT.

Even though Rathore has been charged with non-bailable crime, he was unlikely to be arrested on Tuesday, police sources said.

The state police had on December 29 registered the new FIRs based on complaints by molestation victim Ruchika’s father S.C. Girhotra and her brother, Ashu Girhotra. The family had alleged that Rathore had implicated Ashu in false cases, tried to kill him and tampered with Ruchika’s post-mortem report.

Last month, a CBI court sentenced Rathore (67) to six months in jail for molesting 14-year-old schoolgirl Ruchika in 1990. Three years later, Ruchika committed suicide after the police allegedly started harassing her family members at Rathore’s ehest.

Meanwhile, Ruchika’s father S.C.Girhotra demanded the registration of a criminal case for involvement in conspiracy against officials of the Sacred Heart School. Girhotra alleged that the Principal, Sister Sebastina, told him she could not allow his daughter to continue in school owing to pressure by Rathore.

On Monday, the Union Home Ministry decided to strip Rathore of his police medal.
