FAILING TO catch the stalker who targeted women in the crowded Chowk area and threw acid at them, police have announced a reward to anyone who would provide information about the culprit and help police in his arrest.

District police have announced a reward of Rs 5,000 for anyone who would provide information about the stalker. The informer’s name would be kept a secret. The first incident was reported on January 9 when acid was thrown on one, Razia. On February 13, Somita was attacked in Kotwali area.

The third incident occurred with Shalini, a resident of Shastri Nagar. In some other cases the complainants had decided not to approach the police for fear of ignominy. The row of acid attacks had caused panic in the Walled City.

The police suspected that the person behind the attacks was a pervert who either worked at a jeweller’s shop or battery shop where acid is easily available. The modus operandi in all the cases was similar as diluted acid was thrown in smaller quantity from behind.
