ADITI MUTATKAR of Maharashtra and P Kashyap of Andhra Pradesh won the women and men’s titles on Friday in the second State Bank of Indore all-India senior major ranking prize money badminton tournament organised by the Madhya Pradesh Badminton Association at Nehru stadium.
The women’s final was played between the top two seeds Aditi and B R Meenakshi. In the first game, Aditi beat Meenakshi 21-12 to take 1-0 lead.
In the second game, Meenakshi gave a tough fight and made her opponent run around the court. The second game was evenly poised as both the players showed their class and it was a good match to watch.
When it was 25-25, Aditi kept her service and forced Meenakshi to commit mistakes. She won the match by 27-25. Speaking to Hindustan Times, Meenakshi said that she was running temperature the previous night and was tired as she had participated in a couple of tournaments before coming to Indore hence she could not give a good fight in the first game.
In the men’s final, second seed P Kashyap of Andhra Pradesh won the title against Abhinnshyam Gupta of PSPB who had shocked top seed Anand Pawar in the pre-quarterfinals.
In the first game, P Kashyap from AP played brilliantly. His terrific smashes and placements stunned Gupta and he could not recover from that as he stood at point eight and Kashyap held his service and won the game without much difficulty by 21-8.
After losing the first game 0-1, Gupta showed touch of the previous matches in the second game. It was one of the best matches seen by the Indore crowd. Long volley, smash placements by both the players were eye catching.
Gupta was trying to tempt his opponent Kashyap by his high service. Couple of times Kashyap fell in his trap and lost few points.
At one stage, Kashyap was leading by 8-5 but Gupta never lost his hopes and came back in the game to take lead 12-10. Kashyap played brilliantly and equalised the score and started taking lead 15-13.
Gupta had good chance to equalise the game as Kashyap was trailing by 18-20 and was holding the service. Gupta failed to return a nice placement by Kashyap and that was the end of Gupta. Kashyap smashed both the times to deceive Gupta to equalize 20-20 and never allowed Gupta to come back and won the match by 22-20. It was a thrilling final.
In the men’s doubles final, Sanve Thomas/Rupesh Kumar pair defeated Jaseel P Ismail/Jose George pair by 21-14 and 21-16 to bag the title. The Madhya Pradesh Badminton Association president Vishwapati Trivedi distributed the prizes to the winners.
