After tiff with senior, soldier shoots himself in Kupwara

A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) soldier has allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle during a rehearsal parade in Kupwara district of North Kashmir on Saturday.

A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) soldier has allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle during a rehearsal parade in Kupwara district of North Kashmir on Saturday.

Sources said the jawan killed himself after a spat with his senior over leave.

A local news agency quoted sources saying that Syed Abdul Majeed of 162 Battalion on Saturday shot himself dead with his service rifle after his officer "abused and misbehaved" with him during a rehearsal parade for January 26. The soldier had reportedly asked for leave due to some "domestic problem".

Majeed was rushed to the Sher-I-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences in Srinagar for treatment. However, he died on reaching the hospital.

He was a resident of Uttar Pradesh.
