AICTE to improve quality of teachers

The AICTE will take steps to improve quality of teachers in engineering colleges.

The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) will take steps to improve the "quality of teachers in engineering colleges in the country," AICTE Chairman Prof Damodar Acharaya said on Tuesday.

At present there was a shortage of about 1.20 lakh teachers in the engineering colleges, Acharaya said, speaking on 'career management for teachers' at the International Education meet in Kochi.

The Council will take steps to attract the best talents into teaching profession, he said adding continuous training of teachers was needed.

The curriculum based learning materials would be made available throught Edusat for training teachers.

The Vice-Chancellor of the Mahatma Gandhi University, Prof Jancy James spoke on Policy framework formulated by the Vice Chancellors panel, while Dr Mariamma Varghese, NAAC Bangalore, spoke on Quality Assurance: National and International Accreditation.
