The driver, Kalidas Mahilyavandkshi (52), had picked up Ambani’s Lamborghini from a garage in south Mumbai and was driving to Ambani’s residence at 4.20 pm when the accident occurred.

Dhanraj Vanjari, senior inspector of Cuffe Parade said: “The pedestrian identified as Rajendra Kanojia (35) was crossing the road to board a bus parked on the other side of the road. Mahilyavandkshi, who was speeding, lost control of his vehicle, and it went on to hit Kanojia.”

Constables posted at the junction informed the police about the accident.

Kanojia suffered minor injuries and was taken to the St George hospital and released after treatment.

Mahilyavandkshi has been booked under sections 279 and 337 of the Indian Penal Code. “He will be presented before the holiday magistrate court on Saturday,” added Vanjari.

Asked if Anil Ambani or any of his family members were there in the car, Vanjari said the driver was alone.
