A medical bulletin issued by the board of doctors said there was a 'slight setback' in his health for a brief period last evening. But it was now stable and the neurological status remained unchanged.
"His overall condition continues to be critical but stable," it said.
Dr Jayanta Bose, one of the members of the board of doctors, said there was no plan to go for another brain surgery.
Mr Biswas underwent a second operation of the brain on March 18, a day after he was admitted to a city nursing home following a severe brain haemorrhage.
Put on ventilatory support, the CPI(M) Polit Bureau member had been battling for his life in the ICU of the nursing home with the doctors constantly monitoring his condition.
