Another batch of pilgrims leaves for Amarnath
A fresh batch of 2,623 pilgrims on Monday left in Jammu for the holy cave shrine of Amarnath in south Kashmir Himalayas.
The pilgrims comprising 1,783 men, 502 women, 78 children and 260 sadhus left from the base camp at MAM stadium around 6.00 am, officials said.
They left in a fleet of 84 vehicles, including 55 buses and 29 light motor vehicles (LMV), they said adding the cavalcade of vehicles have crossed Samroli area in Udhampur district, where the previous batch of pilgrims were delayed due to landslide on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
Most of the pilgrims would reach the base camp at Nunwan in Pahalgam for their onward journey to the shrine tomorrow. However, some of the pilgrims would trek to the shrine after halting at Baltal base camp, the officials said.
With today's batch, a total of 18,151 pilgrims have left here for Amarnath shrine since the commencement of the yatra on July 2.
