Two militants were killed in an 8-hour long gunbattle on Thursday in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.

The body of the third militant was recovered from the debris of a destroyed house. “With the recovery of one more militant body the toll in yesterday’s encounter has risen to three,” a police officer said.

Earlier bodies of two militants were recovered from the debris on Thursday evening after the gunfight ended late in the afternoon.

Meanwhile, several villagers accused the army of ransacking houses after the encounter was over. “Many valuables at my house are either misplaced or missing,” said a Zari Pora resident on the condition of anonymity.

One house was razed to ground in the exchange of fire while two houses sustained damages in the encounter.
