They were protesting against his proposal to enhance reservation in Central Government-funded institutions.

The activists alleged that the decision was politically motivated.

They said the Centre should reserve seats on economic criteria rather than on caste basis.

The demonstrators said implementation of the HRD Ministry’s proposal would mar the career prospects of students preparing for competitive examinations.

Morcha youth wing State president Anand Chaturvedi said instead of providing reservation for OBCs in Central institutions, the government should offer better educational facilities at the primary level.

He said reservation on caste basis would increase social disparity.

Morcha Mahanagar president Bharat Tiwari, Sadan Banerjee, Raghav Bhargava, Shiv Shanker Tiwari, Ram Nath Patel, Sunil Kumar Verma, Sonu Mukherjee and Sanjay Pandey were among others who addressed the gathering.

They, too, denounced the proposal.

They said the government should provide maximum facilities at the primary level to pave the way for a bright future for children who had been deprived of opportunities so far.
