Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi has prepared a two-page form for ticket-seekers in Delhi, pre-empting inclusion of rebels, discards and outsiders in the party’s candidate list for the November assembly polls.
The form seeks details such as assets and liabilities along with political and social achievements. Once the form is filled and submitted, it will be closely scrutinised by block and district level leaders before sending their recommendation to the central party leadership.
Pushing the party into the poll mode, Rahul sent the form to the office bearers at the district level for further distribution to aspirants. The central leadership also announced a 27-member election committee for the Capital.
Soon after his promotion in the party ranks in Jaipur in January this year, Gandhi had resolved to give block, district and state units a greater say in candidate selection. He had also stated that ‘paratroopers, rebels, discards and outsiders’ will not be accommodated in the organisation or given party tickets.
“The aspirants will have to mention their political and legislative background and social works in Delhi. They will have to mention if they were ever suspended from the party or left it,” a senior party leader said, requesting anonymity.
The election committee will take decisions related to planning, candidates and campaign over the next three months. The committee includes seven elected MPs, chief minister Sheila Dikshit and her two cabinet colleagues, Haroon Yusuf and Arvinder Singh, AICC secretary Manish Chatrath among others.
