Army jawan killed as rifle goes off accidentally

An Army jawan was killed in an accidental firing while another was critically injured in a landmine explosion in Uri sector of Baramulla district in north Kashmir, official sources said today.

An Army jawan was killed in an accidental firing while another was critically injured in a landmine explosion in Uri sector of Baramulla district in north Kashmir, official sources said on Tuesday.

Sepoy Ram Prasad, posted with Seven Rashtriya Rifles, was killed when his service rifle accidentally went off when he was cleaning it at Rampur camp near Uri town, 90 kms from here, on Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road last night, the sources said.

They said another army jawan was injured when he stepped on a mine laid outside his camp at Silikote, 100 kms from here, near the Line of Control (LOC) this afternoon.

The injured jawan, identified as sepoy Arun Kumar, was shifted to a military hospital in a critical condition, the sources said.
