Eight of nine Congress MLAs who had earlier aligned with the BJP were also suspended by speaker Pranab Gogoi for raising a similar demand that led to pandemonium in the 126-member house.

The BJP has six MLAs excluding two who switched over from the regional Asom Gana Parishad.
