Assam's first woman member of Parliament, Begum Mofida Ahmed died in Jorhat on Friday following old age ailments, say her family members.

Assam's first woman member of Parliament, Begum Mofida Ahmed died in Jorhat on Friday following old age ailments, her family members said. She was 88.
Ahmed was elected as an MP from Jorhat constituency in 1957 on a Congress ticket and was a member of the party's standing committees.
She had also penned eight books of short stories.
