According to the poll panel, the counting of votes will be done on March 6 in all five states - Punjab, Uttarakhand, Goa, Manipur and Uttar Pradesh.

With the new poll dates, the first phase of voting has been rescheduled to March 3 from February 4. This effectively makes the first phase of elections into the last phase of polling.

The change in schedule was done due to the date of 'Barawafat' festival, the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad, which is likely to fall on February 4.

The Election Commission has also requested the Governor of Uttar Pradesh not to issue the notification for the first phase on January 10, 2012.
