The excavation work began immediately with over 100 labourers from the Mumbai civic disaster management and Mumbai fire brigade reaching the spot.

"Till 12 pm we have been able to excavate the area and found 5 dead bodies. We are suspecting that there are at least 2-3 more bodies in the rubble," said head of the disaster management cell of the civic corporation Vilas Vaidya.

Those dead include Umar Sayyed Mohammed (12), Salman Sayyed Mohammed (25), Fahat Sayyred Ahmed (20), Mariam Umran Sayyed (6) and Umaran Sayyed (40).

"It looks like all the deceased are from the same family. They have been taken to the GT Hospital where the post mortems will be conducted," said a disaster management officer.
