The District and Sessions Judge, RP Shukla, also directed the police to provide adequate security to all the five on dates of hearing, according to senior state counsel OP Sinha.

Sinha said the court has directed the accused -- Irfan Khan, Asif Iqbal, Mohammed Naseem, Mohammed Aziz and Mohammed Shakeel -- to engage their counsels by the next date of hearing, otherwise amicus curie would be appointed for their case to ensure smooth proceedings.

All the five accused, presently lodged in Naini jail, Allahabad, were produced before the court on Wednesday.

They were arrested in connection with the attack in Ayodhya on July 5, 2005, in which five armed terrorists had entered into the acquired land by blasting the iron barricades, but were killed by the security forces.
