A group of 50 people assembled at the new Fateh Kadal area and pelted stones on the policemen who retaliated by firing a few tear gas shells, official sources said.

They said the battle continued for nearly an hour. However, there was no report of any casualty.

Barring this, the situation in bandh-hit valley remained peaceful with no untoward incident reported from anywhere, the sources said.

However, shops and business establishments remained closed and transport was off the road in the city and elsewhere in the valley, the sources said.

Separatists had given a call for observance of a bandh today in support of their demand for right to self determination.
