The university's vice chancellor Professor Simon presided over the ceremony which shown live on the big screen in Millennium Square in Leeds. “It was a surprise for me. I was really humbled and I accept it. I don't know how to react to it,” said Shetty. “To be given a doctorate is a huge, huge honour.” The university has earlier given similar honorary doctorates to Amitabh Bachchan, Shabana Azmi, Yash Chopra and civil aviation minister Praful Patel.
