TOP LEADERS of various political parties will campaign for their candidates in the Kauriram by-election here.

State Cabinet minister and Samajwadi Party leader Shivpal Yadav will arrive here on Monday to address half-a-dozen public meetings. State Bharatiya Janata Party president Keshari Nath Tripathi will campaign on March 22.

The following day, BJP national vice-president Kalyan Singh and chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav will address separate public meetings.

The election is prestigious for both the SP and BJP MP Yogi Adityanath. Adityanath hit out at the SP-led State Government in a public meeting. On its part, the SP has deputed the presidents of around three dozen districts to monitor the campaign.

Meanwhile, the Bahujan Samaj Party suffered a setback on Saturday when former MLA and BSP leader Gauri Devi joined the SP. She termed her return to the party fold as homecoming and said she would work to ensure the victory of SP candidate Rambhual Nishad.

The BJP has already suffered a setback due to the presence of rebel candidate Upendra Dutt Shukla. Lobbying is in full swing to ensure the victory of Shukla. Purvanchal Kranti Parishad candidate Dr Sanjayan Tripathi and Congress candidate Shiv Shambhu Nishad have also intensified their campaign. Rambhual Nishad is leaving no stone unturned for his victory

Lashing out at Adityanath, Minister of State Jaiprakash Yadav said leaders who distributed ashes to people were not capable of launching development programmes. He appealed to people to ensure the victory of SP candidate Rambhual Nishad. Party leaders expressed hope that Gauri Devi’s decision to join the SP would boost the morale of party workers in the region.
