The mystery of at least one missing Bihar schoolboy has been solved, with police saying that Class 10 student Ranjan Kumar eloped with his girlfriend and wasn't really kidnapped!

Over the past fortnight, at least five schoolchildren were reported to have been abducted in the state, resulting in a hue and cry from parents, educational institutions as well as political parties.

But while the others are yet to be found, police recovered Ranjan from Chakia in East Champaran district.

A student of RPS school in Patna, he had gone missing from the school hostel on January 26. Ranjan's father is a builder and it was reported that he was kidnapped for ransom.

But Ranjan was not kidnapped as reported, Senior Superintendent of Police NH Khan said.

He had eloped with his girlfriend and subsequently married her. Khan said Ranjan was in love with the girl, Khusboo, and the two decided to run away.

Police also claimed a breakthrough in the case of Kislay Komal - the first schoolboy from Patna to be kidnapped this month - after arresting the wife of a jailed gangster in this connection Friday night.

Police arrested the wife of notorious gangster Chunnu Thakur in Muzaffarpur. Thakur's wife was interrogated by police.

Thakur, lodged in Hajipur jail, is considered to be close to a legislator of the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) from Vaishali district. Thakur was also suspected to be behind the kidnapping of two engineers last year.

Police also claimed that another schoolboy reported to have been abducted from Patna had gone to New Delhi on his own.

However, police are still under tremendous pressure to locate three other kidnapped schoolboys - include Kislay, Deepak Kumar of Bhagalpur and Ravikant of Biharsharif in Nalanda.
