A local spotted the girl three days ago and took her home. Police took custody of the girl on Saturday. Later, the state women and child development department shifted her to a hospital for treatment and medical examination.

The girl told the police she was abducted by truckers on the way to Haryana from Bihar. Jind child protection officer Saroj Tanwar said the girl had given her name, but was too shaken up to share other details.

Police are trying to contact her family. The accused have not been arrested.

"The girl has been examined and is being counselled," said Jind city station house officer Surinder Pal.

Haryana has been hit by 26 rape cases in the last two months. In Jind district, a 15-year-old Dalit girl had immolated herself after being gangraped by four men on October 6. Congress president Sonia Gandhi had visited the girl's family three days later.
