Birju Maharaj to grace artistes? convention in city

He will also inaugurate the new building of Kathak Kendra on the occasion, said Harinarayan Mishra, convener of 'Kalakar Samasya Sammelan' in a press conference held here on Tuesday. "Function will be presided over by eminent litterateur Pt Kesarinath Tripathi. Chief guest will be Prof Rajen Harshe, Vice-Chancellor of Allahabad University and special guest will be MP Rewati Raman Singh," added Mishra.
According to Mishra the new building which has been constructed with the total expenses exceeding Rs 15 lakh has been made without any government aid.
"Pt Birju Maharaj will also visit his ancestral home at Kichkina, Handia, on January 21. Afterwards he will inaugurate the artistes' convention at North Central Zone Cultural Centre in which approximately 300 artistes are expected to participate.
First session ie the inaugural session will take place on January 21. The second and the third sessions will be held on January 22 in which the discussions will take place on the establishment of national platform for the artistes," said Mishra.
Eminent Kathak exponent Urmila Sharma will preside over the sessions on the concluding day. "We are being supported by Hindi Sahitya Sammelan, Prayag Sangeet Samiti and NCZCC in organising the event. Those who will arrive for the event are Sridhar Vyas, president Madhya Pradesh Kala Parishad, Bhavan Shah from Ujjain, Rekha Nadgauda from Nasik, Chiradeep from Kolkata, Balram from Patna, Madhukar Anand from Dehradun, Arjun Mishra from Lucknow, Vidyadhar Vyas, vice chancellor Bhatkhande University, Dr Purnima Pandey, vice chancellor Khairagarh Music University, Purnima from Delhi, Deepak Maharaj from Delhi, Sangeeta Sinha from Varanasi, Ram Babu Bhatt from Kanpur and Mala Tankha, Kamla Bose, JN Chaturvedi, and others from Allahabad," said Mishra.
