BJP veteran LK Advani asked party MPs to stop highlighting the UPA government’s failure and instead, explain the decisions taken by the government to the public, to help prepare for the 2019 polls.

“As the PM has said, the government will be required to take certain hard decisions, especially on the economic front. We should explain to the people why such decisions are necessary and why they will help the nation and the common people in the long run,” Advani said at the concluding session of a training programme for first time BJP MPs.

The BJP, which successfully coined the ‘Achche Din Aane Wale Hain’ slogan, has invited criticism for hiking rail fare and there are indications that similar measures could be announced in the Budget to revive the economy.

Advani also set out targets for the new government and asked MPs to scrupulously stay away from any kind of misconduct or controversy.

He also praised Modi for his win, but insisted that praise for the success should not be aimed at Modi alone but to Team Modi.

The former deputy PM spoke of a long-term vision for the party where majority and minority communities will not be differentiated and these categories will be irrelevant while safeguarding the people’s right to follow their respective religions.

Union ministers Piyush Goyal and Prakash Javadekar addressed the MPs on social media and media-related issues. MPs were requested to be careful on social media.

Suresh Soni, who is the RSS point-person with BJP, spoke about the nation’s expectations and the ideology of the party.

Lok Sabha secretariat is also holding a similar orientation programme for first time MPs from Monday.
