Heavy fog claimed its first casualty in the city on Monday. A woman died on the spot while her 19-year-old son was critically injured when a school bus hit their scooter head on at Badshahpur crossing near Sohna Road.
Kela Devi (50), who was riding pillion, and her son Rahul Kumar are residents of Badshahpur. The police have impounded the bus which was abandoned by the driver who fled the spot to evade arrest.
The mother-son duo was returning home around 8.30am on their Honda Activa two-wheeler when they met with an accident. Abdullah Khan, the police investigating officer said, “The driver of the bus has been identified as Dinesh Kumar of Teekli village. He is absconding as of now but will be arrested soon.”
Rahul is undergoing treatment at a private hospital.
The national capital region (NCR) woke up to a thick blanket of fog which reduced visibility to almost zero in Palam area while it was around 200 metres at Safdarjung, the meteorological department said.
In Noida’s Sector 40, a vehicle overturned after a collision on the Noida Expressway. In another incident, a truck overturned after ramming into a road divider in sector 82.
Around 2am in the Badalpur Industrial area, a truck rammed into a car, killing one person and injuring two and a biker was mowed down on DND Flyway. There will be fog on Tuesday morning as well but the sky will remain clear during the day.
The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 22 and 7 degrees, respectively, the Met dept said.
