The World Cup press centre was evacuated on Friday after construction workers found what they thought might be a bomb left over from the Second World War.

Experts were examining the rusty piece of metal, measuring 15x7 cm, which was discovered near the press centre adjacent to the capital's Olympic Stadium.

Unexploded ordnance from wartime British air raids is often found during excavation work in major German cities, occasionally requiring buildings or whole streets to be evacuated.
