CPI on Monday slammed BSP and JD(S) for extending unconditional support to the UPA government saying they were indulging in "politics of opportunism".

"The unconditional support given by the BSP and JD(S) even without the Congress asking for it has not come as a surprise, as these parties have always been indulging in politics of opportunism and have again shown their true colours," CPI National Secretary Atul Kumar Anjaan told PTI.

Referring to BSP supremo Mayawati, who was projected as the prime ministerial candidate of the Third Front, he said that apart from organizing a dinner for the partners she had little to do with the strategy or meetings of the Third Front.

"Though she had been hankering for becoming the prime minister with support of Third Front partners, she neither had any coordination with them nor attended any of the pre- or post-poll meetings," he said.

The left parties were fully aware that Mayawati had been indulging in politics of opportunism and would go along with anyone as per her convenience and she did the same, Anjaan said.
