As per preliminary information, a group of armed ultras fired on a team of security personnel while they were patrolling outside the CAF’s camp at Amdai village under Chhotedongar police station limits early Thursday morning.

This led to a gun-battle between the two sides, Narayanpur superintendent of police Abhishek Meena said. However, after a short encounter, the Naxals fled to the dense forests, he said.

“CAF constable Ashwini Singh Rajput was martyred in the incident,” the SP said.

Soon after the incident, security forces launched a combing operation in the region, located about 350 kms from the state capital, to nab the attackers, he added.
