A Canadian soldier was killed in an attack on a coalition base in southern Afghanistan early on Wednesday, the Canadian military said.

A US soldier was also killed in the attack in southern Helmand province, the US-led coalition said in a statement.

"A Canadian soldier died in action in Sangin district (in Helmand) this morning," Canadian spokesman Lieutentant Mark MacIntyre told the agency.
