"We are carrying out a search operation at the residence of Ahmedabad station director of AIR regarding a case of cheating and fraud," a top CBI official told PTI.

The Central agency had registered a case of criminal conspiracy, fraud and cheating against two AIR employees who had allegedly floated a bogus company and were making programmes that were aired by AIR Ahmedabad, he said.

"We suspect the involvement of higher ups in the AIR, as without their connivance, the programmes prepared by a bogus firm would not have been aired," the official added.

However, he declined to divulge more details and said the search operation was still underway.
