He has been holding the post of chairman CBSE since May 2002. Ganguly holds MSc (Physics) postgraduate degree from Allahabad University and a diploma in Educational Administration from the National Institute of
Education Planning and Administration, New Delhi. He got selected in Provisional Educational Services through combined UP Civil Services Examination in 1975.
He has participated in various conferences and workshop in foreign countries particularly in France and Germany to study vocational education programmes.
