A large number of students who even took coaching in science subjects failed answer the questions. According to them, teachers at the coaching institutes were also surprised to see the question paper.
They had never expected that CBSE would introduce drastic changes in the question paper without informing candidates appearing for the examination. This year about 16,000 students appeared from 26 examination centers on Sunday.
According to candidates, even in the Mathematics question paper, there were 40 questions and all were quite lengthy and against the syllabus prescribed for the examination. Similarly, there were 55 questions each from Physics and Chemistry and were lengthy.
Subject experts on the other hand said that all question papers were of JEE level, while CBSE was meant to introduce a new system to assess the engineering aptitude of candidates, rather than asking them to qualify through the traditional method of the entrance examination.
The changing pattern of question papers at the CBSE and the JEE examinations has led students to believe that studies at coaching institutes would not provide much help to them in qualifying the competitions and they needed to rely upon the school studies.
