The central government has approved four-laning of the Sangrur-Haryana border road section of the National Highway-71 in Punjab with an investment of Rs 612.28 crore.
The central government has approved four-laning of the Sangrur-Haryana border road section of the National Highway-71 in Punjab with an investment of Rs 612.28 crore.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), which met in Delhi on Wednesday, granted the approval under the National Highways Development Project, Phase-IV.
The road-widening project to be taken on build, operate and transfer pattern would involve four-laning of the 57-km-long stretch of the national highway.
Besides improving road infrastructure in the state, it would reduce the time and cost of travel for traffic, particularly heavy traffic, plying on the Jalandhar-Moga-Sangrur-Rohtak-Bawal national highway.
The main townships on the section where the road-widening work is being undertaken are Sangrur, Patran and Khanauri.
The project would also help in uplifting the socio-economic condition of the region and increase employment potential for local labourers for project activities, according to an official release.
The estimated project cost of `612 crore includes the cost of land acquisition, resettlement and rehabilitation, and other pre-construction activities. Of the total road of 307 km of the Jalandhar-Bawal National Highway, 130 km passes through Punjab.
