Celeb chat: ?I was never into studies?
Studies never really interested Arjun Punjj whose claim to fame was the role of Dr Aman in the serial Sanjivani.Updated: Aug 24, 2006 13:31 IST
Studies never really interested Arjun Punjj. And before one starts to wonder who ‘Arjun Punjj’ is, his claim to fame was the role of Dr Aman in the serial Sanjivani. Now, that rings a bell.
Currently dating his co-star from the same serial, Gurdeep Kohli, he intends to walk down the aisle with her in December. But did you know this young actor with chocolate boy looks, who will soon take centrestage in the second season of Nach Baliye (Star One), is a Delhiite? Based in Greater Kailash, South Delhi, he went to Gyan Bharati School in Saket.
“I was just not the type of guy to study. What interested me more were extra-curricular activities like sports.” He went on to prove his prowess as a state level basketball player.
Ask him about his teachers and he instantly replies, “I still remember my drama teacher Sarita Mishra. I wonder if she’s still teaching there. And of course, I remember our principal Mr Kapoor,” says this former Abhimanyu House student. Though he opted for commerce in Class XI, he knew it would not take him ahead.
“My parents knew I was not interested. After Class XII, I started assisting a photographer in Delhi itself. To devote time and energy, I finished my graduation through correspondence,” says the young actor who shifted to Mumbai eight years ago. “When I was leaving for Mumbai, my parents and friends were very supportive. Instead of demoralising me to venture into something completely alien to me, they said they were proud of my guts to leave friends and family and start from a scratch,” he says.
Punjj made his debut in a pretty forgettable film Tere Liye, where he starred opposite Shilpa Saklani, now married to Apoorva Agnihotri. What followed were a spate of advertisements and a couple of music videos.
His second innings began with Woh Rehne Wali Mehlon Ki. For now, Punjj is busy with his rehearsals for Nach Baliye. “I won’t say I’m a great dancer but I definitely don’t have two left feet. I have performed for Star Parivar awards before.”
There’s yet another reason for the big smile on his face. Post Sanjivani, this is the first time that the two real life lovers would be working together!
