Former Prime Minister Chandrashekhar has demanded that Sushma Swaraj be suspended from Rajya Sabha.

Taking exception to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sushma Swaraj's threat to resign from Parliament if Congress President Sonia Gandhi becomes prime minister, former PM Chandrashekhar has demanded her suspension from Rajya Sabha.

In a letter addressed to President APJ Abdul Kalam, Chandrashekhar demanded that Swaraj be suspended from the upper house of Parliament as her statement amounted to a lack of faith in India's constitution.

Pointing out that Swaraj had become a Rajya Sabha member only after taking oath and reposing full faith in the constitution, he said her statement was not only 'unconstitutional', but also 'anti-national'.

"Such a statement can have an impact on the whole nation. It can weaken and destabilise the country," the former prime minister said.
