City of lakes Udaipur sparkled with glamorous faces from India and abroad as it played host to parties preceding the marriage of NRI actor-business tycoon Vikram Chatwal and model Priya Sachdev.

Pre-wedding parties in Jag Mandir and Devigarh based on the "Carnival" and "Fantasia" themes on Wednesday will remain a much talked about affair for a long time.

While Devigarh near Udaipur was the venue of a lunch, Jag Mandir in Lake Pichola was the venue for the dinner party, which ended late night.

The bridal costumes for these theme parties were specially designed by the famed Rohit Bal who also churned out the attires of several guests. Most of the guests wore pink and red designer clothes.

Vikram stole the show in his pink designer suit while Priya was dressed up in chaniya choli similar to the one worn by Aishwarya Rai in the latest dance number "Kajrare Kajrare".

Vikram, who is the son of multimillionaire NRI hotelier Sant Singh Chatwal, had officially announced his marriage December 9, 2004, when he gifted a 10-carat diamond ring to Priya in Mumbai.

The marriage is being viewed as one of the most glamorous ever solemnised in India.

Politicians, industrialists, famous Hollywood actors, designers and writers from overseas and India are expected throng the marriage ceremony on February 19 in Delhi.

The couple, after landing in Udaipur on Tuesday morning along with their family members, drove directly to hotel Udai Vilas where they spent the day with relatives.

Maharana Pratap airport in Udaipur had never been so busy as most of the guests and relatives who were there in the city to attend this party came in chartered planes.

More than 400 elite guests thronged the parties in Udaipur, which included supermodel Naomi Campbell, Aditya Mittal - son of steel king Laxmi Mittal, and family members of Bill Gates.

Guests were given a warm Indian welcome at their hotels, showered as they were with fresh flower petals.

Decorations in Janana Mahal, the venue of Tuesday's party, extended up to Laxmi Chowk in the premises of City Palace. The Shabbir group of Delhi performed ghazals and qawwalis on the "white theme" in the party.
