"Kallu was taken out nearly 20 hours after he fell into the pit but died soon after," said an official. The incident took place in Barama Kheda village.

"A parallel hole was dug about five feet away from the hole in which Kallu fell. Oygen was pumped into the hole to facilitate breathing by the child but he could not be saved," said sub divisional magistrate GP Soni.

Kallu was playing with his uncle when he accidentally fell into the dry tube well around noon on Saturday. The villagers informed the local administration after his mother called out for help.

The rescue team employed a similar strategy that was used to rescue six-year-old Prince in Haryana who fell into a 50-feet pit in July.

This is the second incident of its kind in the past one week. On Dec 23, a child died similarly in Begumganj village in Raisen district.
