Astronomers from the Shanghai Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) simulated cosmic movement and evolution using super computing servers and special software, the People's Daily said.

Jing Yipeng, senior researcher with the observatory, and his team worked out a formula to describe how the difficult-to-measure cosmic dark matter congregated, which unravelled the structure of the halo of cosmic dark matter.

Cosmic dark matter and dark energy, that have puzzled human beings for long, have also been identified in the virtual picture.

International scientists called the picture drawn by the Chinese as a "competitive achievement" in basic cosmic research, the Chinese official newspaper said.
