Talking to mediapersons here on Friday, president of UP Women’s Congress Committee Sudha Rai informed that the committee would start a ‘Sonia Sandesh Yatra’ from Varanasi on March 1. “This yatra will cover about a distance of 65,000 km in UP”, she said and added that this yatra would focus on women-related issues.

“This yatra will propagate policies of the Congress about women’s empowerment in UP”, she said and added that Congress activists would organise meetings at district, block and village levels and apprise the women about their rights.

Sudha Rai, who will lead the Sonia Sandesh Yatra, said this yatra would be completed in four phases during which it would cover all 70 districts of UP and public meetings would be held at all 11 Nagar Nigams and only in 9 cities. She added that public meetings would also be organised at 78 tehsil headquarters and 29 block headquarters as well as other places.

She said the first phase of the yatra would formally start from Varanasi on March 1 but public meetings and rallies would not be held here due to panchayat elections.

“The series of public meetings and rallies would begin from Mugalsarai on March 2”, she said, adding that AICC president Rita Bahuguna Joshi would address a public meeting at Mugalsarai on March 2.

She said this yatra would cover three divisions, including Varanasi, Mirzapur and Azamgarh, in the first phase, which would conclude in Azamgarh on March 10, she said.
