As a result, angry Congmen disrupted movement of traffic for about half an hour. Hundreds of Congress workers led by former Mayor Anil Sharma, Ragewendra Swarup, Usharatnakar Shukla and Naresh Tripahti approached the jail authorities for permission to meet the jailed Congress workers.

However, the jail authorities denied them permission and advised them to follow the jail rules.

This agitated the Congressmen and they blockade the road.

CM’s effigy burnt

Hardoi: Protesting against increasing crime rate and rampant corruption, Congress workers burnt CM’s effigy here today. Nearly 6000 Congress activists also courted arrest.

Congress activists under the leadership of DCC president Ajay Singh also organised a meeting outside the Congress committee office. Singh said that those policemen who were involved in criminal cases, had been given charge of the police station.

Congress activists also staged demonstration on main roads of the city and assembled outside jail gate for their arrest.

City magistrate told Hindustan Times that he has registered arrest of 300 Congressmen for breaching law and order. However, DCC president Ajay Singh claimed that 6000 Congress workers have been courted arrested.
