On Sunday, the BJP first inducted Sene leader Pramod Muthalik at a function and then asked him to leave.

In a ceremony attended by Janardhan Poojari and Oscar Fernandes, head of the Sene’s legal cell Shetty, who was arrested in the 2009 pub attack case in Mangalore, was inducted into the Congress.

When the news of Shetty’s induction spread and drew widespread criticism, the party went back on its stand. In a statement to the media, Poojari initially said that he did not know anything about Shetty’s induction, but later clarified that the decision had been set aside.
