A young couple allegedly committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance here, police said on Monday.

According to police, the two had allegedly fled from their native village Gaurikala on December 8 following which a complaint was lodged against the boy by the girl's father.

Police on Sunday nabbed them at the Sandila railway station after which the duo took the extreme step when they were being brought to a police station.

They were rushed to a primary health centre, where the boy was declared dead, police said, adding the girl later died at the hospital.
