The High Court has asked the chairperson of the commission and superintendent of the protection home what circumstances made them confine the girl for such a long time. The court has ordered to send the explanation by the second-week of January.
The court also ordered the Lucknow police to ensure a foolproof security for the girl at her house. The court had taken cognizance of the reports recently about the father of the victim struggling to take his daughter back home. Sabruddin, the girl’s father, had met all senior officials in administration, the chairperson of the women commission and also the superintendent of the protection home to allow his daughter to go back home.
But, none of the agencies allowed him, referring to the risk of life the girl faced in her house.
But, the court questioned authority of the women commission chairperson and the superintendent of the protection home why they kept the girl in custody for so long. The court said if the girl wanted to go home and her father was requesting the same why did the concerned authorities turn down their plea.
It may be recalled that state women commission chairperson Ranjana Bajpai had sent the rape victim to the protection home despite the fact that the then SSP Navniet Sekera had assured for a foolproof security for the girl at her house.
Though the girl was sent to the protection home, the SSP deputed armed constables for security of her family members.
The victim’s father initially wanted to take his daughter back home only after the case in the court was decided. But, he started requesting the authorities to release the girl when he saw the course of legal procedures taking a long time.
