A local court on Wednesday refused to grant police custody of self-styled godman Nityananda, embroiled in an alleged sex scandal, to a team from Puducherry, which sought his remand in connection with a cheating case.

Judge C G Hungund of the Ramanagara session's court turned down Puducherry police's plea on the ground that day-to-day hearing of the criminal cases, being investigated by the Karnataka CID, is currently in progress.
Nityananda, who was arrested on criminal charges including rape, was remanded to judicial custody till May 13 by the same court on April 30.
His bail application has been posted for tomorrow.
The self-styled godman landed in a controversy in March after TV channels aired video footage purportedly showing him in a compromising position with a Tamil actress. He was arrested from Solan in Himachal Pradesh on April 21.
