Hundreds of CPI(M) activists today agitated near the state secretariat demanding punishment for those involved in the 'multi-crore mining scam', about four months after the party activists jointly campaigned with BJD workers during elections.
"When there is the question of state interest, CPI (M) will side with the people and not the government", party's state secretary Janardan Pati affirmed.
"We hold all the successive governments in Orissa responsible for mines scam. All those involved must be punished", state Secretary member Santosh Das said.
Stating that the National Mineral Policy (NMP) gave scope for looting valuable minerals from the state, Das demanded ban on the export of minerals.
Making clear its opposition to the state's decision to allow opening of private universities including Vedanta University in Puri, Das said the left party would not allow this to happen.
The party also held the state responsible for the death of people in cholera in Kalahandi district.
