The CPI would organise sit-ins and demonstrations across Andhra Pradesh in protest against rising prices of essential commodities on July 10.
"We are presently having deflation. But the prices of essential commodities and food items have gone over the roof.
The Congress government has failed to take any concrete action to arrest the trend. The CPI demands that the government take tough action against hoarders and supply essential food items through PDS outlets at reasonable prices," CPI state secretary K Narayana told reporters.
The two-day state secretariat meeting of the party, which concluded in Hyderabad on Monday, passed a resolution to this effect, he said. In its analysis of the recent election results, the state secretariat meeting felt that the massive welfare schemes like pensions to senior citizens and the disabled, farmers' loan waiver have benefited the ruling
Congress to some extent.
The failure of the Grand Alliance partners - TDP, CPI, CPI(M) and TRS - to complete the seat-sharing smoothly and expeditiously and the presence of Praja Rajyam led to the marginal victory of Congress at the hustings, Narayana said.
The CPI's secretariat meeting also passed resolutions demanding ration cards to all eligible people, houses and house sites to the urban poor, cleaning of drainages in cities and also rationalisation of stamp duties, he added.
