CPM politburo to decide on LS Speaker's post: Somnath

On the Congress offer of Speaker's post, the CPI(M) veteran has said that the party's politburo meet will take the decision on Tuesday.

Veteran CPI (M) leader Somnath Chatterjee said on Monday the party's politburo meeting, slated in Kolkata on Tuesday, would decide on the Congress offer of the post of Lok Sabha Speaker to him.

"As a party member, I cannot take a personal decision. So far I have heard the party's politburo, which is meeting in Kolkata on Tuesday, will take a decision. The politburo, thereafter, will communicate the decision to the coordination committee of the Left Parties in Delhi which are scheduled to meet there on May 26," Chatterjee said.

Asked whether he discussed the issue when he visited former West Bengal Chief Minister Jyoti Basu during the day, Chatterjee said, "it was a routine visit. Whenever I am in Kolkata I try to find time to meet him."
