A Dalit woman Baansmati was allegedly brutally beaten up by Siddharthanagar police personnel on February 8 at Bangai village in the district where they had come in search of an accused, police sources said.

The severely injured woman was admitted to the district hospital where she succumbed to her injuries late on Monday night.

Speaking about the incident, Angil Rasan, SP Balrampur said, "A case has been registered against Itwa police station (of Siddharthanagar) and investigations are on."

In another incident, a 35-year-old Dalit woman was harassed by jawans of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) at Belbharia village late last night.

The sources said that an SSB chowki incharge and a watchman, allegedly in an inebriated state, forcibly entered the house of the woman, who later registered a case against the duo.

Commandant of 20th Battalion of SSB posted here said, "We have started a departmental enquiry and strict action will be taken against those found guilty."

Balrampur SP said a case had been registered and investigations were on. However, no body was arrested in both the cases.
