Gujral is showcasing her exquisite line in an exhibition at home. She has embedded precious stones in fine gold and platinum, and colours are the highlight of her collection.
“I’ve used lots of colours, with rubies, sapphires, pearls and tourmoline. In the wedding season, people always look for colours in their jewellery,” said Gujral.
Her mother Kiran and sister-in-law Feroze were there to encourage Alpana at the opening of her exhibition. Said Feroze: “I’m not a jewellery person but I love to wear delicate pieces. Alpana has spoilt me — whenever I say I’m looking for a particular kind of jewellery, she makes it for me.” She loves the fusion trait in Alpana’s line.
Kiran Gujral said she used to help Alpana in the process earlier but now her jewellery designer daughter is on her own.
Going back to the collection, the designer has reworked on traditional settings and motifs to incorporate innovation in design. For instance, large polki pendants are given a contemporary look. Precious stones are mixed with the sparkling hue of uncut diamonds.
The designer, who takes about four to five months to make a piece, said: “For this winter I have mixed the purity of white with the vibrancy of colours.”
