"I hope that we bring some law, which is equivalent to section 302 of the IPC (punishment for murder).... There should be an ordinance... an ordinance will be good.... This is my personal opinion," the overseas Indian affairs minister told reporters in Chennai.

He said "this (incidents of rape) is happening in every state.... The state governments should also give their support.... Parliament should give its support."

Minister of state in the PMO V Narayanasamy said the Centre would soon find a solution to end such crimes.

"The government is worried about this. The guilty should be given punishment. We will find a solution for this soon," he told reporters separately.
